01Getting started

This is the ColorMag theme instruction page. We have tried our best to keep it as simple as possible. If you think it can be made even simpler let us know we will be glad to change it. Let’s start! On the right side you can see the table of contents of this documentation. Jump to the section you want, or read it all through – your choice. Let’s move on!

02Installation

Installing your theme is pretty easy! After downloading, you should have a colormag.zip file. This is a compressed file containing all of the required templates, images and icons required for the theme to function properly.

Upload the theme

  1. Go to Appearance > Themes in the WordPress Dashboard
  2. Click on the Add New button
  3. Click on the Upload link
  4. Select the colormag.zip file
  5. Click Install Now

Activate the theme

  1. Go to Appearance > Themes in the WordPress menu
  2. Hover over the theme thumbnail and press the Activate button

05Header Logo Display Type

This theme supports custom logo. To use it, follow the below steps..

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Header Options > Show section.
  3. Choose the option as you want to show for your site logo.
  4. After you have done it, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

06Header Image

To set the header image follow below steps.

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Header Image section.
  3. Upload your logo by clicking on the Add New Image button.
  4. After you upload the headerimage, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.
Note: The recommended header image size for this theme is 1400 X 400 pixels. Additional information: Have a look here if you are still confused WordPress Header Image

07Header Display Type

This theme support the option to place your header image in different place. For this:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Design Options > Header Image Position section.
  3. After choosing the right place for that, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

Note: This theme support the link of the Header Image back to the Homepage.

08Breaking News

This theme support the breaking news section, which shows your latest 5 posts from your site. To set it up, please follow the below steps:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Design Options > Breaking News section.
  3. You need to check on the checkbox saying ‘Check to enable the breaking news section’, and then, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

09Date Display

This theme supports to show the current date. To set it up, please follow the below steps:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Design Options > Show Date section.
  3. You need to check on the checkbox saying ‘Check to show the date in header’, and then, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

10Show Home Icon

This theme supports to show the home icon in the menu. To set it up, please follow the below steps:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Design Options > Show Home Icon section.
  3. You need to check on the checkbox saying ‘Check to show the home icon in the primary menu’, and then, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

12Search Icon

This theme supports to show/hide the search icon in menu. To set it up, please follow the below steps:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Design Options > Search Icon section.
  3. You need to check on the checkbox saying ‘Check to display the Search Icon in the primary menu’, and then, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

13Random Post

This theme supports to show/hide the search icon in menu. To set it up, please follow the below steps:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Design Options > Random Post section.
  3. You need to check on the checkbox saying ‘Check to display the Random Post Icon in the primary menu’, and then, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

14Site Layout

This theme supports the wide and boxed layout for your site. You can maintain it via:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Design Options > Site Layout section.
  3. Choose the layout as you like.
  4. After you change the layout, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

Note: This layout is for your whole site.

15Default Layout

This theme supports the different layout options. You can maintain it via:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Design Options > Default Layout section.
  3. Choose the layout as you like.
  4. After you change the layout, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

16Default Layout For Pages Only

This theme supports the different layout options. You can maintain it via:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Design Options > Default Layout for pages only section.
  3. Choose the layout as you like.
  4. After you change the layout, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.
Note: This layout is for the pages only, which will overwrite the default layout.

17Default Layout For Posts Only

This theme supports the different layout options. You can maintain it via:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Design Options > Default Layout for single posts only section.
  3. Choose the layout as you like.
  4. After you change the layout, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.
Note: This layout is for the posts only, which will overwrite the default layout.

18Primary Color Options

This theme supports the primary color options. Change the primary color that best suit your site.

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Design Options > Primary Color Option section.
  3. Change the color as you like.
  4. After you change the color, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

19Background Color Options

This theme supports the background color options. For this:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Colors section.
  3. Change the color as you like.
  4. After you change the color, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.
Note: This will only be applicable when only using the Boxed layout. Also, you can use any image for it instead of the Color.

20Custom CSS Box

This theme supports the Custom CSS, which overwrites the CSS of the main stylesheet file, so that you can apply some CSS to change the look of the site as you desire. Also, this changes will still remain even if you update the theme.

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Design Options > Custom CSS section.
  3. Add your custom CSS inside the box.
  4. After you add the custom CSS, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

21Social Icons

This theme supports different social icons, which you can use to get followers to your site. For setting this up:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Social Options > Activate Social Links Area section.
  3. Check on the checkbox saying ‘Check to activate social links area’. Remember this is required in order to show the social icons in the footer.
  4. Add the social links as required and if you want to open them on the new tab, you can check the box saying ‘Check to show in new tab’. Now, click on Save & Publishbutton to save the changes.

22Favicon

This theme supports the favicon. For setting this up:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Additional Options > Activate Favicon section.
  3. Check on the checkbox saying ‘Check to activate favicon. Upload favicon from below option’. Remember: to upload the favicon, you need to visit ‘Upload Favicon’ section, just below and upload it.
  4. After completing the above steps, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

25Colored Category

This theme’s best approach is that it uses different color for each category. These, are all effected in the single post, category archive and more. For setting this up:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Category Color Options > Category Color Settings section.
  3. Choose the color as you like for each category
  4. After completing the above steps, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

26Header Sidebar

This theme has the header sidebar, in which you can add the 728×90 advertisement. Also, we have provided that with the widget. For setting this up:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Widgets > Header Sidebar section.
  3. Here, add the TG: 728×90 Advertisement widget and upload your image, which you want to show as advertisement.
  4. After completing the above steps, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

27Front Page: Slider Area

This theme uses the widgets to showcase your news sections. One of it is Front Page: Slider Area. It is especially useful for adding the TG: Featured Cat Slider widget. For setting this up:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Widgets > Front Page: Slider Area section.
  3. Here, add the TG: Featured Cat Slider widget and select whichever category you want to display for it. Also, you can use any number of the posts for it to show.
  4. After completing the above steps, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

28Front Page: Area Beside Slider

This theme uses the widgets to showcase your news sections. One of it is Front Page: Area Beside Slider. It is especially useful for adding the TG: Highlighted Posts widget. For setting this up:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Widgets > Front Page: Area Beside Slider section.
  3. Here, add the TG: Highlighted Posts widget and select whichever category you want to display for it. Also, you can use any number of the posts for it to show.
  4. After completing the above steps, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

29Front Page: Content Top Section

This theme uses the widgets to showcase your news sections. One of it is Front Page: Content Top Section. It is especially useful for adding the TG: Featured Posts widget. For setting this up:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Widgets > Front Page: Content Top Section section.
  3. Here, add the TG: Featured Posts widget and select whichever category you want to display for it. Also, you can use any number of the posts for it to show.
  4. After completing the above steps, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

Note: This is also applied to the Front Page: Content Bottom Section widget.

30Front Page: Content Middle Left Section

This theme uses the widgets to showcase your news sections. One of it is Front Page: Content Middle Left Section. It is especially useful for adding the TG: Featured Posts Vertical widget. For setting this up:-

  1. In the dashboard, go to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Click on the Widgets > Front Page: Content Middle Left Section section.
  3. Here, add the TG: Featured Posts Vertical widget and select whichever category you want to display for it. Also, you can use any number of the posts for it to show.
  4. After completing the above steps, click on Save & Publish button to save the changes.

Note: This is also applied to the Front Page: Content Middle Right Section widget.

32Our Widgets

Here are some of the lists of the widgets, which are available through this theme:-

    1. TG: Videos

This is the widget to show the Youtube video in the sidebar. Here, you need to only add the Youtube video id as shown in the image:-colormag-instruction-youtube

    1. TG: 300×250 Advertisement

This is usually kept in the Right/Left sidebar to add the advertisement in your site.

    1. TG: 125×125 Advertisement

This is usually kept in the Right/Left sidebar to add 125×125 advertisement in your site. This uses the image for that purpose.

33How to limit the excerpt text?

If you want to reduce or increase the number of words that appear in post. You can easily change that. Just follow the below steps:-

  1. Go to your post editor screen in the dashboard.
  2. In post editor screen look for the Screen Options button at top-right part of the screen.
  3. Click on it and make sure the Excerpt check-box option is checked.
  4. Now, somewhere below the main post editor box, you should be able to see the theExcerpt option box.
  5. Add your manual excerpt there with desired amount of text and Update the post.

34Author Box

The author box will appear just below the post in single post view. This theme supports the author bio. To display the author bio, you need to write the bio information in the profile section (Users->Your Profile) inside the Biographical Info.
